بيان صادر عن بلدية غزة
تنظر بلدية غزة بعين الخطورة لإغلاق مكب النفايات الرئيس شرق مدينة غزة نتيجة استهداف قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلية لطواقم البلدية العاملة في مكب النفايات الرئيس بمنطقة جحر الديك شرق مدينة غزة صباح أمس السبت الموافق 15 مايو/ أيار 2021، بالرصاص الحي والقذائف المدفعية، ما أسفر عن إصابة العاملين، مما ينذر بأزمة صحية وبيئية كبيرة نتيجة اشتعال النيران في المكب وانبعاث الأدخنة السامة منه، اضافة إلىتراكم وتكدس النفايات الصلبة في محطة الترحيل المؤقتة "اليرموك" وسط مدينة غزة.
وتؤكد البلدية أنها على تواصل مع اللجنة الدولية للصليب الأحمر بعد إخلاءها للمصابين والعاملين لتنسيق إخراج الآلية المحاصرة التي كان يعمل عليها الموظف المصاب وهي من نوع (D9)، وتوفير الحماية للعاملين في المكب، إلا أن الاحتلال رفض عودة العاملين للمكب أو الآلية المحاصرة هناك، الأمر الذي يهدد بتفاقم الأوضاع الإنسانية المتأزمة أصلاً نتيجة وقف ترحيل النفايات، وانتشار الدخان في سماء المدينة نتيجة استمرار اشتعال المكب واتساعه.
ويستقبل مكب النفايات الرئيس يوميا ما معدله 1000 طن من النفايات الصلبة، تضطر البلدية حاليا إلى ترحيلها لمحطة ترحيل اليرموك وسط المدينة غير المخصصة لإبقاء النفايات بداخلها لفترات طويلة.
وبناء عليه فإن بلدية غزة تجدد دعوتها للمجتمع الدولي والمؤسسات المحلية والدولية لتحمل مسؤوليتها والتدخل لحماية طواقم البلدية العاملة ميدانياً ولا سيما في مكب جحر الديك شرق مدينة غزة، تجنبًا لحدوث أي مكرهة صحية وبيئية في المدينة في ظل تفشي جائحة كورونا.

After Israeli Direct Attack: Serious Crisis As Solid Waste Management in Gaza Has Been Disrupted
The Municipality of Gaza is profoundly concerned about the halting of operations at the only solid waste landfill in Juhr Al-Deek in the east of Gaza City as a result of the temporary closing of the site after the Israeli occupation forces shooting and bombardment of the location, leaving number of municipality workers injured. The deliberate targeting incident took place yesterday morning, Saturday, May 15, 2021. This extremely alarms adverse health repercussions as a result of the burning of the solid waste in the landfill by the Israeli on-ground forces, as well as, the toxic fumes emitted.
The municipality affirms that it is in contact with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to coordinate for the trapped D9 vehicle, on which the injured employee was working, to exit the landfill. The MoG urged the ICRC to make all efforts by coordinating with all parties to ensure the safety of workers at the landfill. Regrettably, the occupation has refused to allow the municipality workers to return to landfill and to take the trapped vehicle out of the site.
MoG believes that such actions threaten to aggravate the humanitarian situation which is already in deep crisis in terms of health, safety and well-being of the community and the spread of harmful hazardous smoke resulting from the burning of solid waste.
This main landfill has the capacity to receive an average of 1000 tons of solid waste daily, whereas the municipality is currently compelled to transfer solid waste to the AlYarmouk sub-station in the city center, which is not designated to keep the waste inside it for long periods.
Accordingly, the Municipality of Gaza repeats its appeal to the local and international institutions to address the unfortunate consequences of the unlawful aggression on Gaza and to protect the municipality emergency working staff, especially at the Juhr al-Deek landfill, in order avoid further disastrous impact in the immediate future and the aftermath of this aggression in light of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic.
